Yo. My girl Amy is fierce. I mean, the definition of fierce: wild, savage, intense, eager. All of it. She took a 1976 Airstream RV, gutted it, and transformed it into a rad mobile vintage clothing shop. Amy can go anywhere she pleases, any time. She wanted to start this business to satisfy the appetites of people who were tired of the same old (and bad quality) corporate clothing, and because high rent prices in the downtown Charleston area make it near impossible to cut a profit.

Red Rose Vintage is an 80s fashion superstore full of pieces with attitude, character, color, and no shortage of sequin/neon/fringe/etc. I wanted these images to be as savage as Amy is. So enjoy.

Chris Sullivan. Portrait of a musician.

I have known Chris as my trainer at Charleston Krav Maga & MMA for the past few years and also knew that he was a very talented musician. I was stoked when he asked if I could take pictures of him for a new website launch. Based on his personal and musical style I immediately began researching images of Johnny Cash to channel that vibe on our shoot. Here is a short bio taken from Chris' new site www.youngsullivan.com:

Originally from Jacksonville, Florida, Chris Sullivan grew up in Charleston, South Carolina where he fell in love with and began playing music. Sullivan’s vast musical influences solidify his no nonsense approach to delivering music unadulterated by trend and loyal to heart while expressing the introspective aspects of his life that otherwise would remain untold. Baby it's cold! So take a look at Mexico and warm up.

Recently I decided that I very much deserved a little vacation from everything. So I booked a trip to Mexico and went- just like that. No husband, no kid, just me and my mom and a lot of Spanish speaking and local food. It was wonderful. We went to Tulum, which is a little over an hour south of Cancun. It's a no-frills sleepy beach town with not much else to do than ride bikes around "town" and go to the beach. That's just what we did.

The food is amazing and the people are friendly. Take a bike, explore the neighborhood, find a restaurant with only locals, and submerge yourself in this vibrant culture. You won't be disappointed.

The new year has long past and I love the time I get to reflect on the work I've done and the people I've had the pleasure of getting to know. Since moving down here to Charleston from Brooklyn 3 1/2 years ago, I have connected with families and followed them on their unique journeys. Engagements led to weddings and babies, second pregnancies gave way to bigger, crazier, and more joyful families, and I've realized my client galleries have become a bit of a timeline that I get to document and keep.

I always say that what I do is a privilege, and I mean it. So thank you, again, for letting me into the depths of who you are.

As a photographer, you really can't go wrong when photographing a beautiful girl, on the beach, at the golden hour. It's like Christmas morning when it all comes together. Natalia and I collaborated to create this dreamy stylized session with a sort of bohemian-gypsy-mermaid on the beach. I think we did pretty well.

Natalia had a clear vision and was game for anything. She modeled for friends in her native country of Moldova so was very comfortable in front of the camera. This shoot was wonderful, and fun, and a great way to enjoy a gorgeous beach at sunset. Thank you Natalia!

The Americano - Viva la South - Mount Pleasant, South Carolina

The Americano is a Cuban-American restaurant that recently opened in Mount Pleasant. Walk in the doors and you are immediately transplanted to a world of art-deco Miami, complete with ceramic parrots and vintage garden flamingos. Pink napkins, spectacular custom painted walls by artist Jamie Boling, palm frond wall paper and shuffle board complete this painstakingly planned and detailed restaurant. It was a labor of love, and, in my humble opinion- it's perfection. Mount Pleasant needed this. Heck, Charleston needed this. The Americano adds such a wonderful rabbit hole in this bustling city. And I haven't event mentioned the food or cocktail menu. Rum? Yes, please. Their progressive cocktail program (via Brent Sweatman- the genius behind The Rarebit's cocktails including their Moscow Mule) has me downing their meticulous concoctions with a slurpy straw...

The menu is pretty spectacular as well, blending traditional Cuban dishes like Ropa Vieja and Puerco Asado with tacos, guacamole, and burgers for the more American palate.

If you have been living under a rock and have not been to The Americano, do yourself a favor and go. Plan on relaxing for a while. Enjoy the phenomenal food and definitely try the Mexican Mule and the Dark and Stormy.

Sara's Bridal Portrait Session

I am so excited to finally be able to share these bridal portraits with you! Sara and Will tied the knot at the Charleston Harbor Resort a few weeks ago in a glamorous and gorgeous beach wedding. I definitely love the bohemian thing everyone is going for now, but I was thrilled to photograph Sara in a very sleek and stylish satin gown inspired by Caroline Bisset. She wore a classic, bright red lipstick and her hair was worn long to one side. Old Hollywood vixen style. So much to love.

On the big day (which I will share in the weeks to come) Sara and Will looked like a celebrity couple, I kid you not. What a true beauty.

Meet Maressa - The Warrior

You may remember Maressa from a photo session we did on the beach a few summers ago. She is a stunning, strong young lady, and now a cancer survivor. In October 2013 she was diagnosed with Hodgkin's Lymphoma at age 24. She moved back to New York to be close to family, and upon returning to Charleston and shaving her head- I knew I wanted to do a session with her that showed her strength and resilience.

Maressa has a fighting spirit that I wanted to capture and honor. She was totally game for another beach session with a decidedly different tone, and she clearly rocked it. You can read her blog on her journey with Dr. Oz here: http://blog.doctoroz.com/author/maressa-williams

Alina + Patrick's Engagement

Alina and Patrick are super sweet and super quirky in the most adorable way. I have photographed a lot of engagement sessions and I love when I can really tell how comfortable two people feel with each other. Alina and Patrick were fun, goofy, and had great chemistry. They were totally up for anything I threw at them and looked good doing it.

This boneyard beach provided an ethereal setting during the golden hours of a warm spring evening. Unfortunately their rescue dog Larry could not join us on the beach, but he certainly stole the show at the end of the shoot. What a sweetie.

Erica & Marc, A sweetly Southern wedding at Oakley Farms

Erica & Marc are a stunning couple and I was lucky enough to shoot both their engagement and their wedding. Erica put a lot of love and effort into every single detail of the day to make it truly magical.

We did bridal party and first-look photos at the idyllic Mepkin Abby, then headed down the road to Oakley Farms, which provided a rustic and gorgeous background for the ceremony and reception.

One could tell that a tremendous amount of thought and heart was put into this special day, and as always, I am very grateful to be a part of it! Catching up like CRAZY! Charleston Family Photography with the Ginsbergs

I. Am. A. Slacker. The past two months have been super busy, but you wouldn't know it by looking at my poor blog :( No posts since almost Valentine's Day. I guess that is a good sign though. I have about 6 different entries in the works.

I am happy to catch up with the Ginsberg Family! They are dear friends of ours who started out as neighbors on Daniel Island. Little Cohen, (first image below) who is not so little anymore, had his baby session with my right at Children's Park on that very same wooden boat. He has grown into a handsome boy who is now a big brother to baby Carter.

This family is always ready for a party. I'm still bummed they are not our neighbors anymore, but at least I still get to photograph their beautiful, growing family.

I have gratefully taken the past few weeks off to work on the business aspect of photography and am now back to booking regular sessions- which is such a blessing. February has been busy and March looks even crazier!

Before the close of the year I had my last family session with the beautiful and funny Bornstein family. All the kids were so well-behaved and everyone was game for pretty much anything. I have to say I most enjoyed photographing the three generations of lovely ladies on the dock. I love capturing the subtle, sweet moments that children share with their parents. Jessica and Dale have been married for 7 years, but you'd never know it. They have the energy of newlyweds! They have known each other since grade school in Kansas and have been on some amazing adventures together over the past decade. You may recognize Jessica as the knockout from the Yoga & Fashion beach session a few weeks ago. This is a session with her other half and her heart, Dale.

Their energy together is amazing and they gave me phenomenal moments to capture. They moved well together and were so sweet. I had a hard time cutting down the gallery to a suitable size! So many favorites.

She said YES! Family beach session with a surprise proposal. EPIC.

You guys... this family. I photographed Kelly & Kenneth's wedding last October (the first couple from the right, below) and was so excited by all the genuine emotion of the entire family. People laughed, a lot- and cried tears of joy, and danced their *sses off at the reception. It was a photographer's dream.

This year the Kelly's brother David (first on the left) contacted me to organize a family photo session on the beach and wrote- "...and by the way I'm proposing to my girlfriend." I almost fell off my chair and died with giddiness when I read this. It doesn't get any better as far as I'm concerned:

*the beach close to sunset (gorgeous light)

*a family whom I adore (smiles all around, no awkwardness)

*and a surprise proposal (genuine emotion up the wazoo)

The weather definitely cooperated though it was a little chilly and windy. I took some traditional family shots first then started taking couples aside to set David up for the big moment. Now it was time and magic happened- she said YES! The whole mood changed and the cold didn't seem to bother anyone as much. Champagne poured and rose petals flew.

This has to be, hands down, one of my favorite sessions. Botany Bay is a gorgeous setting for anything, especially photography in the golden hours of sunlight. Jessica is aiming to be a yoga teacher and to do a little modeling on the side, so this shoot is about yoga, nature, and some stylized fashion.

I like to keep things natural when photographing my clients, meaning I don't have external lighting and rely on mother nature to work with me and give me amazing surroundings to appreciate. This session and the final gallery represents exactly where I want to be in this moment. I'm very proud of this work and I hope you enjoy looking at it as much as I enjoyed creating it. Namaste.

Charleston wedding photography | Kat & Henry | Edisto 2014

Within seconds of meeting Kat, I knew I wanted to photograph her wedding. She used some major key words like "small," "barefoot," and "pig roast." She had me. Charleston is a huge wedding city and as a photographer you really can't avoid the wedding industry down here. I tend to gravitate toward and attract clients that have smaller, more intimate weddings and want an editorial-style photographer rather than traditional portraiture. I knew Kat, her fiancé Henry and I would make a great team for the big day.

The wedding was set in Edisto, South Carolina at the Brick House Ruins on a small point with 11 houses. The house itself used to be the main house on a 300 acre plantation and was built in 1725. It caught fire in 1929 and was declared a historic landmark in the 70s. It provided an amazing backdrop to the wedding ceremony and reception. I desperately wanted to climb all over it but falling bricks made that a big NO. Haha!

So this wedding was pretty much a dream for me with a barefoot bride and bridesmaids, a relaxed bride and groom, gorgeous moss covered oak trees, and a 300-year-old historic landmark as my background. There was a lot of dancing and laughing and celebrating. The whole group of family and friends gave me wonderful moments and genuine emotion to capture. I hope you enjoy the images!

Fall Family Photography | The Leeke Family

The Fall Family Photography Sessions continue with the gorgeous and sweet Leeke Family! I have watched Grayson and Meredith practice karate with my son Liam and had such a wonderful time photographing them at the Navy Yard in North Charleston. They all have so much personality (as usual with my lovely clients) that this session was definitely not work- definitely a blast. I love when I have a hard time narrowing down the gallery in the last phase of editing.

I brought the kids little Halloween gift bags with some fun vampire teeth which provided for some really cool shots. Sometimes kids have a hard time with a crazy lady following them around with a camera so I always try to think of ways to lighten the mood and make it fun. Grayson really came out of his shell as a zombie vampire. Enjoy!

My own Trash the Dress | Botany Bay | Billie Jo & Jeremy Photography

I never really gave a thought to what I would do with my wedding dress after the big day. I figured I would just save it in a nice box in my closet- but how boring is that? Once I discovered the concept of "trash the dress/say yes to the mess" I was hooked. Six years after getting married I booked a session with the amazingly talented duo at Billie Jo and Jeremy Photography. We met at Botany Bay in Edisto on a gorgeous day with very strange weather. As I parked my car I noticed a massive black cloud very quickly approaching the beach. I figured we would either be totally rained out or it would provide an amazing, tumultuous background for our shoot. Thankfully, the latter prevailed though we all got pretty wet.

There are some people who criticize this practice but I have to say this was a very fun and positive experience for me. It rained the day before our wedding so the ground was wet, which pretty much destroyed the bottom of my dress. I tried cleaning it, keeping in mind that I could very well donate the dress to be worn or transformed into something else. The intricate beading was also coming undone, making it very unlikely that the dress could be used again.

Billie Jo and Jeremy did a phenomenal job on this shoot. They were sports about weathering the bits of rain and were totally game for getting in the water with me. I was so thrilled with them that I hired them to photograph both my business shoot and my personal family shoot. They are going to be sick of editing me:)

Boone Hall Pumpkin Patch Field Trip

Last week my son's Pre-K class took their fall field trip to Boone Hall Pumpkin patch. It was a gorgeous, clear (and hot) day and the pumpkin farm provided a beautiful background for these pictures. Of course, Liam could not wait to jump on the bounce castles. Take a look at his mid-air super hero skills...

We had a few cooler days recently- which really means the weather was in the 60s rather than the 80s- so it doesn't quite feel like fall yet in Charleston. Coming from New York, I love fall and the change of seasons. It just happens a few months later down here. The next adventure is apple picking. Stay tuned.

I first met Quinn, the stunning mom of two seen here, when she was pregnant with her little girl Camilla. I have had the honor of photographing her pregnancy, Camilla as a newborn, and the family as a whole over the past few years. As a photographer it's such a wonderful thing to form a great relationship with a family and to have the privilege of watching them grow over the years.

For this fall family session I met the whole gang- Quinn, Michael, Luca, and Camilla- at the Children's Park on Daniel Island. We explored the shoreline with amazing trees, oyster shells, and tiny crabs. My goal is to make the kids as happy and relaxed as possible so that they cooperate for the group family shots. These kids were cake, and I even got to steal Michael and Quinn away for a few loving shots.

Why hire a photographer, anyway? | Family Photography Sessions

Yes, it's that time of year again, already! How bittersweet it is. Summer is over, the holidays are just around the corner, and it's time to book a Fall Family Session!

But why? Why is it so important to photograph your family every year?

This is not an attempt to vehemently promote myself or what I do. Some people really don't see the value of professional photography. After all, we have smart phones with pretty decent cameras. We all take pictures daily, whether it's our kid at karate, a gorgeous cup of coffee, or a burning sunset you just can't pass up. Look at people's Facebook pages. They are basically photo timelines that document someone's entire existence. So again, why hire a professional like me? I hire another photographer for my family every year, and always will.

Here's why:

1. Besides the obvious fact that I have VERY expensive equipment: It gets MOM in the picture, yes you, mom. How fun is it to set up a tripod and try to get the whole family to cooperate while you run back and forth... yeah.

2. Think of the memories you will pass on to your kids in the future. Ever looked at those yellow-ed, slightly out of focus pictures of your own parents/grandparents from, say, the 60s or 70s? Those pictures are the best! Your kids don't want to inherit 1000 pictures of themselves in 30 years. They want to see their parents next to them, the family as a whole.

3. The family session creates beautiful artwork for your home and family gifts. Think canvases, framed images, holiday cards, personalized coffee mugs.

4. Kids change so quickly (too quickly). For almost two decades kids grow like weeds! Their faces change, they get taller, they get braces, each year gives you thousands of memories that can be captured in one session.

5. A professionally and artistically trained photographer has the eye to capture you and your whole family in the best possible way. We want you to be ecstatic about your images. We want you to be overjoyed with how great everyone looks. We want to create a gallery that is like a magical time capsule that will engender the best memories and feelings for the rest of your life. Photographers are able to capture those tiny "in-between" moments where true personality and emotion comes out. Those are golden moments.

Anyway, there's my two cents. You will never regret a family session, I guarantee it. I can't wait for my own this year:)

Charleston Senior Portrait Photography | Austin

I had such a wonderful time taking senior pictures for my amazing world-traveler brother, Austin. He just spent the past year as an exchange student in Denmark and closed out his trip with Euro Tour- which makes me envious beyond belief! I asked Austin to get me little magnates in each country and now our refrigerator is full of cute, kitsch-y souvenirs from Iceland to Spain to Vienna. He even put our own padlock on the Lock Bridge in Paris! Just another excuse to vacation there asap:)

Thank goodness for my very own assistant (and my son) - Liam. He made sure to follow Austin's every move, climb on him, and make him jump on the boat dock for some good splash pictures. Austin is truly Liam's favorite super hero now. So sweet.

Tons of people are going to say this today- but I really cannot believe that it's September 1st. I love that August has 31 days because it's the last, long, lazy stretch of summer and everyone is trying to hold on to it. Of course, it will be hot down here in Charleston through Halloween, but I'm not quite ready to face the fall.

This summer was such a wonderful whirlwind of activity for us. We did a little traveling, but mostly hung out at the beach or pool, had water balloon fights, chased the ice cream truck, rode motorcycles, went strawberry picking, learned how to swim under water... wow we really did a lot! I think about how lucky Liam is with how he's growing up and all the things he gets to experience. I'm lucky that I get to re-live (and sometimes re-form) my childhood summers with him. It's pretty cool, and very nostalgic. As a parent you always want to create the most amazing childhood memories for your kid(s). I feel like we definitely accomplished that this summer.

I probably have 1000 more iPhone photos that deserve to be in this post, but these are the real keepers. (Upon importing I actually have 973 iPhone photos that cover the spring and summer. Hello terabyte hard drive.) I hope everyone has had a great Labor Day weekend. See you in the fall.

Say Yes to the Mess, Trash the Dress! Wedding dress photography on the beach.

The philosophy behind the "trash the dress/say yes to the mess" photography is about taking an elegant gown and putting it in a completely contrasting environment- such as the beach, in order to ruin the dress. It is a work of art on it's own. You take a white (-ish) wedding dress and literally drag it through the mud/sand/sea and are able to capture photos of the bride that can be striking, beautiful, and provoke thought. There are a lot of people who disagree with this relatively new practice but I, for one, think it is amazing. Brides pay upwards of thousands of dollars for a dress they may wear for a few hours. There is something deliciously exciting about destroying the perfection of the dress and documenting the transformation. Trash the dress/rock the frock/say yes to the mess is not a negative concept, but rather an anti-materialistic display of metamorphosis.

For Mikaela, my "bride" (and dear friend) shown here, this was a personal journey about literally shedding a skin and moving on. This dress wasn't worn down the aisle, it never made it there since the wedding was called off. Ironically, she reached out to me years ago to photograph her wedding and instead I ended up shooting her "trash the dress." The dress traveled with her from New York to Charleston, and spent time between her closet and the trunk of her car. To her, there was really no other way to handle the dress. It became this heavy symbol of the past, something that should be set free. Of course, you can donate it or have it made into something else, but it seems wrong to pass on that kind of energy. We collaborated to do something that was artistic, representative of Mikaela, and transformative all at once.

After a few weeks of some crazy southern summer storms, the skies took a rest to reveal burning pinks, purples, and reds along with rolling clouds that served as our backdrop on Sullivan's Island. The beach was windy and the water was warm. It was perfection.

For those who may be critical of this choice, Mikaela also made a donation to the Keeper of the Wild Fund in the amount of the value of the dress. A few months ago she lost her Newfoundland, Will E. Wonka to Wobbler Syndrome and Wild and Free is the foundation dedicated to rescuing and rehabilitating wild animals.

So call me if you want to have fun with that wedding dress just hanging in your closet. For Mikaela and myself it was all glitter, paint, sand, and salt water. In the words of one of her favorite quotes:

This was such a sweet and simple wedding to be a part of- and so traditionally southern! Michelle and Reed got married in the heat of August at the end of a dock that is very sentimental to them. After weeks of storms the weather cooperated beautifully to allow for a wonderful ceremony, and later a photo session down at White Point Garden.

Michelle and Reed walked down the aisle to John Legend's All of Me, then walked back as a married couple to Ray LaMontagne's You Are the Best Thing. The boys were very cooperative and smiley- and I have to say- Caine took the best selfie with my camera which is definitely one of my favorites from the whole day. This is truly a beautiful, traditional southern family at its best! As always, thank you thank you thank you for choosing me to be a part of it.

This family now has not one, but two little princesses! I was fortunate enough to spend part of the morning in the lives of the Davis family to photograph them as they are, on a typical morning, hanging out with Gabby- their newest little member of the family. There was plenty of flopping around on a bouncy cow, playing hide-and-seek behind the curtains, and just being cute and photogenic.

Lauren, the gorgeous mom, certainly doesn't look like she just had a baby. Her face is bright and smiling and she doesn't look the least bit tired. Papa Noah is doting and gentle, but maybe a little apprehensive about the prospect of having two teenage girls in the house before he can blink. Then there is sweet Sophia, the older sister (by almost 2 years) is giving me plenty of cuteness to photograph and is really just adjusting to the squirming bundle of joy taking over the house.

It is always an honor and a pleasure to be chosen to photograph such special moments in people's lives. Here is the Davis Family.

I definitely thought I knew what I was in for with this party. The lovely father-to-be, David, contacted me about photographing a baby gender reveal party. I automatically assumed that he and his expectant wife Shelley were having an adorable party with family and friends where they would reveal the gender of their first baby. Not so. Neither David nor Shelley were aware, THEY were the ones finding out! Turns out David's sister was the one who knew and filled super soakers with dyed water- genius and amazing.

The sprayed each other in front of guests and the crowd went wild. Talk about genuine emotion... I was bursting behind the lens. This stuff is gold. This couple is gold. The baby being born is one lucky little--- you'll have to look at the pictures to find out.

I'm back! With a gorgeous beach wedding

Wow it has been a long time since I posted! I took a little break over the summer and am back to play catch up with some amazing events and photos. Stay tuned for the cutest little ninjas you've ever seen, water balloon fights, Fourth of July lantern lighting, and lots of other summer fun!

Kicking it off with this gorgeous bride and dapper groom at their laid back Folly Beach wedding. Mike and Christine, along with their entire family, are some of the warmest, sweetest people I have had the pleasure of photographing. The skies cleared on this stormy weekend to allow for a wonderful beach ceremony complete with rainbows and light flares. Right up my alley. Enjoy!

My sister Sophia recently came down for a visit and I could not resist making some light flare photography in the gorgeous sunset light. Sophia kind of reminds everyone of a fairy. Saying goodbye to Will

My dear friend Mikaela has two amazingly gorgeous Newfoundlands who also happen to be father and son. Will, the father, was diagnosed with Wobbler Disease this past winter. It's a spinal condition that causes an unsteady gait and difficulty getting up. For a Newfoundland this is definitely not something you want to hear.

I have had the pleasure of photographing Will and Chaucer for the past two years. Last year we did a sweet shoot at one of their favorite spots on Sullivan's Island, but this year due to Will's condition, we kept it close to home. Mikaela posed with her boys in their front yard just days before she had to put Will down. It was an honor to photograph these beautiful dogs and to capture Will's last days.

I have had the pleasure of photographing Shelby twice now, and I have to say she is gorgeous, photogenic, sweet, and very mature for being a graduate from the class of 2014. She will remain close to home and attend the College of Charleston this fall. I was delighted that she and her mom chose me to photograph such a wonderful transition in Shelby's life.

We started at the Alhambra Hall taking photos near the big tree by the water that holds many childhood memories for Shelby. We then headed to the Pitt Street Bridge and somehow avoided the masses of people out to enjoy the amazing weather. My sincerest congratulations to Shelby as she starts a whole new adventure in her life! This session was a blast. Enjoy.

Little Ninjas Yellow Belt Testing

Our son started karate at the Daniel Island Japan Karate Institute this past January. It is an amazing program that teaches kids self-respect, discipline, body awareness, and so many other great skills. Liam has been doing well with the program and recently passed his yellow belt test! It was a pretty big deal at the dojo, all the instructors were standing on the floor with their clip boards watching the various skills and exercises to determine if a student should pass or stay in their belt. Liam's Little Ninjas class has kids ages 3-4 and I think they were all a little nervous- I would be! Here are some shots from the test.

Motherhood with a camera. It's the little things: a haircut

I get hired to take pictures of other families, or important events- like weddings, birthday parties, restaurant openings, reunions, etc. As I go through my client galleries it makes me smile that I was able to give these people documentation of their event that they can keep forever. And I am always honored to be chosen as the photographer. For my own family, I pretty much have my cameras around all the time. I alternate between the big guns: 5D Mark II and III, but also love my Fuji Instax Mini instant film camera, and even my iPhone. You can bet that all major events have been captured on a combination of cameras, yielding thousands of images.

One of the most important things I've learned as a mother and a photographer, is that the little everyday things are just as important (if not more) as the big life events and holidays. A lot of you will remember the 'finger paint war' pictures of Liam. That was just a normal afternoon for us. I love capturing my family on a Sunday afternoon when we have no particular agenda. I photograph Liam's toys and books, my husband washing his motorcycles, our dog laying in the sun. Some of my favorite images are ones that I took on the fly, just for the heck of it.

That all being said, the photos below perfectly illustrate my point. I didn't stage anything, didn't clean up the mess, didn't direct. I just stood there and took it in. Every moment is precious. These are some of my favorite images. Enjoy.

This family was a great way to ring in 2014. They were fun, goofy, and super easy to photograph. They really won me over when they wanted to get a jumping shot. Music to my ears!

This is a tribute to my family and my clients. My job and my passion is to capture moments and suspend them in time, and to do it beautifully. As a wife and mother I am forever taking pictures and constantly documenting our lives as a family. As a photographer it is always my aim to get inside your walls and photograph your true beauty as a human being.

It's easy to get caught up in the work, the editing, the blogging and whatnot, but when I lay it all out in front of me, when I'm collecting images for client appreciation gifts or compiling a year-end book, it takes my breath away. Kassi and Parker's Savannah Wedding Blog Post

Kassi and Parker have to be two of the most fun, bubbly, and damn good-looking people I have had the honor to photograph. They were kind enough to choose me to shoot both their engagement AND wedding and I could not be more flattered. Their sweet Savannah wedding was just perfect: not too big or too small, charming, spiritual, full of friends and family, and positive energy.

Whitefiled Chapel, shown below, was the perfect venue for this traditional Southern couple. Their reception did not disappoint either! Kassi, Parker, and family literally danced the night away. The thing I loved the most is that everyone seemed to be goofy and not care. It made for great images.

Project 30/30 Days 26-30. A dream come true.

It seems like I started this project a long time ago and yet it went by so quickly. Project 30/30 was amazing, it was a challenge, it was in the paper, it made me new friends, but most importantly- it kept me outside of myself. I hope it has inspired you to pay it forward because you never know the far reaching effects it will have, and that's the greatest thing. You really reap what you sow, sometimes exactly! For example, one of my first acts was to pass out gift cards to people in line at Starbucks. I spent $50 on 5 $10 cards because I wanted it to be worth it for the person receiving it. They could actually use it more than once. Well, for my birthday I got two $25 Starbucks cards from two separate people. It's a very black and white example of how things come full circle, but it really made me laugh when I basically got my money back.

There are so many people in need and so many ways to give. Don't just think about the homeless guy on the corner, of course he's in need, but so are people close to you- just in different ways. It's amazing to think of how far sphere of influence can reach. Go do something selfless today.

Project 30/30 days 26-30. The beginning of a new journey.

Day 26: Laundry detergent and some cash for the next customer.

There are not nearly as many laundromats here in Charleston as there are in NYC, not even close, so I had to dig a little to find this one. It was pretty dated and I'm sure the lady thought I was crazy when I walked in, put these things on the counter, then drove away. I wonder who found it:)

Day 27: Bath salts for a hard working mama.

My next door neighbor has 3 kids (including a new baby) and probably no time for a bath, but I thought a little encouraging would help. Baths are a gift, especially for moms.

Day 28: Home made organic Ribollita for the neighbors.

I saw this amazing recipe on the Food Network and wanted to try it. Of course I made enough for an army and was dying to share some. As luck would have it our neighbors were out of town for the Thanksgiving holiday and coming home soon. They were pretty happy to have a nice meal waiting for them. Day 29: Little treats for two sweet little girls on our block.

Gosh my neighbors cashed in on this project! Haha:) We have two of the cutest little girls on our street and Liam has already claimed one as his girlfriend. I thought this was a cute holiday gift.

Day 30: Christmas in a jar.

This was one of my favorite gifts! I sliced orange, lemon, and apple, then added some cloves and cinnamon sticks to a mason jar. You put all these ingredients together in a pot of water and simmer on the stove. It fills your home with an amazing holiday scent.

My birthday present: The Joy Project

At the beginning of this project I was interviewed by someone at the local paper about the launching of this year long idea to nominate a member of the community for their philanthropy. They are calling it The Joy Project. Every month a person will win money for a charity of their choice and they kicked it off with my Project 30/30! I was beaming when I saw the huge article exactly on my birthday. It was the greatest feeling in the world and a perfect way to close out the project.

I have to say that I really love these stylized shoots that my girl Mikaela orchestrates. She came up with this ballet-themed shoot for their winter ad campaign and I was super excited from the start. The light was amazing on this gorgeous day and I could not be happier with how they turned out. Mikaela is looking FIERCE.

Project 30/30 Day 16-25. Baking, donations, the Police Department, teacher appreciation!

Wow, I am such a blogging slacker! I could never be the person who blogs every, single day. I can barely get dinner on the table every night (which, honestly, I don't... shhhh) let alone sit down and spill my guts out. The past week and a half have been a whirlwind of Project 30/30 acts of kindness and it's time to catch up and reflect.

As I said before, this project just as difficult as I expected it to be. Recently, a woman from the Daniel Island Newspaper asked what I have learned from this experience. I could certainly fill a page with hundreds of thoughts but here are the top things I've learned:

1. A hand-drawn card from a 3-year-old may as well be magic itself. People love getting artwork from kids! I had Liam make cards for his teachers, his school Chef, our mail carrier, and the Mount Pleasant Police Department this week.

2. You will have to spend a little money. Starbucks isn't free, and sticking money in diaper boxes is really fun, try it!

3. Some people will want nothing to do with your charity. One woman sitting in the Drive-Thru at Starbucks barely rolled her window down for me and didn't want a gift card. That's cool. Another time, moms at Barnes and Nobel almost looked at me cross-eyed when I offered to read to their kids. No problem, others enjoyed it.

4. Baking and giving people coffee really do warm the soul. Coffee is a universal symbol of comfort and warmth. Baking requires more time and is definitely more personal, and people on the receiving end know this. Don't underestimate a good banana bread.

Project 30/30 Day 16-25

Day 16: Thank you to our mail carrier!

Talk about being under appreciated! I have noticed that people down south tend to be more outwardly friendly that in other places- and I've definitely seen neighbors wave to our mail lady, but since mail boxes are lining the street rather than next to the front door there is a bit more distance now. How cool to open someone's mail box for a delivery and see something especially for you. I hope she was thrilled:)

Day 17: Home baked zucchini bread for Mikaela.

Mikaela has done so much for me personally, and our family in the past year and a half that this is the least I can do. Not only has she hand-built custom furniture and decorations for our home, but she has also sent me thousands of dollars worth of business from working at a local bridal store. Mikaela, I love all of your work and think you are amazing! You are a bon fire in this world and we appreciate you so much!

Day 18: Thanksgiving donations to the Lowcountry Food Bank.

Grocery stores are ALWAYS offering 'buy one get one' deals so take advantage! Donating all these food items cost me about $7 extra. Anyone can do it.

Day 19: Picking up trash at the park.

We live within walking distance of some amazing parks here on Daniel Island. Center Park is only a three minute walk from our home, which is such a blessing. This neighborhood does a really good job of keeping up the grounds, but once in a while there is some garbage. We did not have a big job this day, but I thought it was a good opportunity to make Liam aware of taking care of your surroundings and throwing trash way properly.

Day 20: One bag of food for less than $5!

Thanksgiving is a great holiday for so many reasons, but it definitely surrounds food and family. I am constantly grateful that I am able to go to the grocery store whenever I need to and can easily fill my pantry and refrigerator. It's easy to overlook the fact that millions of people are hungry every day, and it's hard to believe that it really is a big issue in our own country. This is one act of kindness that I will make a regular focus.

Day 21: Surprise flowers on Thanksgiving!

For Thanksgiving this year Timothy, Liam, and I will be traveling to Philadelphia for a wedding and will be having dinner with the Falzone Family! My mom and sisters will be celebrating in Syracuse so I decided to have this centerpiece delivered as a surprise. It's the simple things that say a lot:)

Day 22: Hiding money in diaper boxes. Sometimes good things DO come in diapers:)

Having a newborn baby is the most wonderful thing in the entire world! It's also the most emotionally exhausting thing you could ever imagine. These little tiny creatures also need a TON of things, especially diapers. I had no idea that newborns could go through 20+ diapers in a day and man, they are not cheap. How cool would it be to schlep to the store simply expecting to stock up on some diapers, then BOOM- $10 just for the heck of it. The chances that this money will be spent on coffee are pretty high!

Day 23: Teacher appreciation for Miss Lina and Miss Jenny.

I've said it before, teachers are superheroes and that is an understatement. Liam has been having a wonderful year with Miss Lina and Miss Jenny. The fact that he tells me he is excited to go to school in the morning and wants to stay longer in the afternoon is music to my ears! Liam is excelling in Spanish with Miss Lina, working on his handwriting, drawing Mat Man, counting all the days in the month, singing songs about the months of the year, and even explaining new vocabulary words to me. I thought a little holiday gift was in order. Thank you teachers!

Day 24: Coffee, bagels, and artwork for the Mount Pleasant Police Department.

This one almost didn't happen at all! I went to Dunkin Donuts and they were practically sold out of everything. I definitely emptied the shelf of bagels and drained the remaining coffee for these police officers, and it was worth it. The were more than excited when I arrived at the front desk with some good coffee and food, and even more so when I showed them the picture Liam drew for them. I told you, kid's art is magic.

Day 25: A little gift for Chef Michelle at Daniel Island Academy.

Chef Michelle is the school chef at Daniel Island Academy. All the food served in the school is made in the kitchen. They are very careful about food allergies and making sure the kids have super healthy snacks and meals throughout the day. I often see Chef Michelle in the hallway with juice and muffins and she always has a smile on her face. She recently compiled a cook book of her most popular recipes and I, of course, bought one for home. Liam gets excited to read what the afternoon snack is, hoping it's muffins or bread. Chef Michelle is my inspiration!

Project 30/30: Day 12, 13, 14, 15. Coffee, Free Babysitting, Letters to the Troops, Carwash

I promise I'm not slacking on my commitment to my 30 Acts of Kindness! Just slacking on the blogging side of it. This is truly a challenge, but I am still enjoying coming up with helpful, unselfish ideas as well as ways to include Liam.

Day 12: Surprise coffees to two hard working women in my life

Do not underestimate the power of a Pumpkin Spice Latte. My sister, Chloe loves them and has been raving about them since the beginning of fall. I only recently tried one and I'm sold. Chloe was in between soccer games and could certainly use the boost, and my friend Chantal was tirelessly planning an amazing birthday party for her son Avery. I got nothing but hugs and smiles for this act:)

Day 13: Free babysitting

Liam and I were out walking around the neighborhood and we came across little Frankie and her cousin Sophia. Liam was dying for a play date and it just so happened that Sophia's mom had to run out to chauffeur her son between practices. I was more than happy to sit with the girls as they made jewelry out of grass and twigs:) It's pretty interesting to see Liam interact with girls, especially girls who are a little older- and very pretty.

Day 14: Letters to the troops

There really is no amount of thanks that could express our gratitude to the men and women who serve our country. This is not a place for politics, and whether or not you support the war efforts you cannot deny giving thanks to troops overseas. These people miss holidays, birthdays, weddings, soccer games, and family dinners. I cannot imagine the sadness many of them must feel as the holidays approach. A few drawings and a warm note of thanks are the least we can do. Liam was pretty awesome at drawing snow men and decorating trees with markers. I think he enjoyed this one.

Day 15: Bringing Chloe's car for some serious cleaning

My sister's car was FULL of grass. Grass from soccer games AND kick ball. Yes, she is on a kick ball team. And we love her for it! Chloe's birthday was just a few days ago and I thought this would be a nice gift as well. Nothing like driving a super clean car.

We were so lucky to have met this wonderful family when we first moved to Daniel Island last year. Little Cohen is one of the most gorgeous and striking kids I have ever had the pleasure to photograph. His eyes look like the entire world, I swear. Taren and Brent are two very funny, very warm people we are happy to call friends.

Our family beach session was awesome! Cohen kept running toward the chilly water like a madman but I was able to capture some great moments with this family.

This week at Liam's school was all about reading the the Book Fair. The teachers in Liam's class always invite parents to read during story time on Fridays and I was delighted to be reading today! I brought Bear In Underwear, Naked Mole Rat Gets Dressed, and The Little Blue Truck. The kids were awesome and completely attentive, which was amazing. I wanted to pick funny, quirky books that would make them laugh. Success:)

Project 30/30 Day 10: Making and stuffing boxes for Operation Christmas Child

I heard about this amazing charity called Operation Christmas Child. It has been around since the 90s and is an international charity that has distributed more than 100 million shoeboxes filled with gifts and necessities to needy children in 148 countries. The local high school, Bishop England, had a 'packing party' and the goal was to fill 1000 boxes to contribute to this charity.

Liam and I stopped by to make and fill boxes. He was a little confused as to why the presents were for him, but I have to say, with all the things he has given away in the past few days- he's doing a great job. I know he can't really comprehend the idea of charity but it's never to young to start.

Project 30/30 Day 9: Donating toys and books to MUSC Children's Hospital

A few days ago I reached out to the families in my neighborhood to donate gently used toys and books to the MUSC Children's Hospital and got a great response! We were able to donate 3 large bags of toys and about 75 books. Looking at the Children's Hospital Wish List on the website was both sad and inspiring. The kids want a lot of typical things but it also called for party supplies and decorations. That means birthdays in the hospital... Parents don't ever want to think of their kids being sick or hurt in any capacity, but sometimes those thoughts creep up on you and even prevent you from sleeping. You can't help it. I make a point to be thankful every day that Liam is 110% completely healthy. He can run, jump, and play freely.

Maybe some of these books and toys are exactly what's needed and will make someone's day a little better.

Thank you to all the Daniel Island families who contributed, and thank you to my sister Chloe for getting her soccer parents involved! Your generosity is spreading to many, many people.

This was probably one of the most surprising family sessions because ALL three of these children were sweet, cooperative, and funny! Usually it can be a bit of a challenge to get everyone looking at the camera and smiling like they mean it, but not with this family. They were delightfully color coordinated and dang, the kids are cute- making the family gorgeous as a whole.

Charles Towne Landing provided a great fall backdrop for this session, the giant Native American wood totem being my favorite backdrop. It would be an honor to capture this family as it grows. Thank you Whelans!

Project 30/30 Day 8: Thank you for our home!

It may seem a little strange to be handing gifts out to mortgage brokers, but the two ladies who helped us buy our house are more than deserving. Timothy and I are so grateful to have a place to call home, that is an actual HOUSE. We know that a ton of work, phone calls, and negotiating goes on behind the scenes and we wanted to properly show our appreciation. A nice bottle of wine will do:)

Project 30/30 Day 7: Donating clothes and collecting shopping carts

I have a pet peeve. I can stand when people don't return their carts at the store. I know it's none of my business, but I feel like it is the ultimate act of laziness when people can't take an extra 30 seconds and AT LEAST put the cart where it belongs in the parking lot. God forbid you walk 20 yards back to the store. Since I felt like donating clothes wasn't quite acceptable on its own, I decided that Liam and I should collect the straggling shopping carts in the parking lot next to the clothes bin.

Liam thought it was pretty fun and I felt better about Day 7. Hopefully we made some employee's night a little better!

It is a little bittersweet explaining to Liam the importance of donating items to other people. He cannot grasp that other kids don't have the luxury of new, clean clothes, or toy boxes overflowing with new toys. Every act we do together makes me even more appreciative of the life I have with my family.

I've always wanted to read to kids at the Barnes and Noble story time and thought it would be a great, simple idea for today. For a Saturday, there were not a lot of kids at all, but fortunately I ran into one of our neighbors with two kids who were more than happy to join. I read Knuffle Bunny and Don't Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus.

Liam and Chloe and I spent a lot of time reading books. It's so important for kids to read and like books. I always encourage a book over toys- sometimes it works:)

Talk about photogenic, happy, and enthusiastic! This family was wonderful to work with on a beautiful early fall day on Daniel Island. Jenn is the gorgeous mom who interviewed me for the Daniel Island Newspaper for a story on my artwork on display at a local cafe. I was delighted and honored when she asked if I could photograph their family.

The littles girls were precious. Best friend sisters who were sweet and loving with each other. I cannot say enough about this family and how awesome it was to photograph them! These pictures make me smile.

30/30 Day 5: Snack for the MICU waiting room and remembering Liam's NICU days.

This morning Liam and I headed to the hospital with snack bags and drinks for the MICU (Medical Intensive Care Unit). My original plan was to head to the NICU (neonatal) but I'm pretty sure the guy at the front desk didn't quite hear me, so this is where we ended up. Liam was in the NICU for 9 days after he was born. It was nothing serious, but I did go into labor about 4 1/2 weeks early so his lungs weren't up for the challenge yet.

While there, we quickly realized that we were, by far, some of the luckiest parents with one of the healthiest NICU babies. Timothy and I almost felt guilty because we could hold Liam, feed him, walk around with him, etc. A lot of parents hadn't even held their babies, and a lot of the babies were unbelievably tiny...

There really is no kind of consolation you can give to a parent, especially a mother who is watching her baby through a plastic window, looking at all the tubes and lights, hearing the machines beep over and over again. Bringing a basket of snacks to waiting family members is small and simple, but it may just make someone a little more comfortable. This being a hospital visit I could only take a picture of Liam standing in front of the MICU sign, no other people today. He did want to contribute a silly-face photo. So enjoy:)

30/30 Day 4 Part I & II

Day 4 : Thank you Teachers and Surprise Gift Cards!

Day 4 of Project 30/30 was and still is awesome. This project is a little harder to execute than I originally thought it would be. It seems like it shouldn't be difficult to find nice things to do for people, but it kind of is. This is going to take some careful planning, but I guess that is the point- to step out of my comfort zone and really stretch myself.

Today I handed out gift cards to people in the drive-through line at Starbucks. I actually had to go to people's windows and convince them to roll them down and listen to my spiel. 2 out of 3 drivers were super happy and receptive, one woman would barely roll her window down and waved me off. Hey, that's cool, it's not about me anyway. My sister, Chloe, pointed out a mechanic at the garage next door who was more than happy to accept the card for his sister. Then we saw two AMAZING weed-whacker guys who totally thought I was coming to yell at them for something, then were pleasantly surprised by the gifts.

I get so nervous approaching people at the beginning, then I actually enjoy it a lot. My wish is that I made their day a little brighter and may inspire them to pass it along to someone else.

Since I didn't post an entry yesterday I did a second act today. I thought about the teachers and staff at Liam's school and what a phenomenal job they do every day. The ladies at the front desk are always so cheerful and helpful I thought it would be nice to write a Thank You note and bring them some flowers. It's simple, but that's the point. A little appreciation goes a long way. Everyone needs to be acknowledged for what they do and it can make all the difference in the world.

Project 30/30 Day 2: Baking for neighbors

Our next door neighbor gave birth to her second daughter a few days ago! We just met them recently and the mom-to-be was commenting on her due date being two weeks away, and also saying that she could go at any time. I remember how crazy it was bringing one baby home so I can only imagine what it's like to have a toddler waiting for you as well.

I tried to think of something quick, easy, and healthy that mom and dad could grab to eat- and pumpkin bread seemed perfect. There's little sugar, organic pumpkin, and tons of pumpkin seeds.

Kelly & Kenneth's Sweet Southern Wedding

Kelly and Kenneth are a joy to be around. They are sweet, gentle, and loving souls. I had the honor of being able to photograph their engagement AND wedding and had a wonderful time doing both events. I love getting to know a couple, hearing the details of the wedding, then putting all the faces with the names of friends and family on the big day.

I was really struck by Kelly & Kenneth's faith and what a big part it played in their union. There was a traditional mass at a church in downtown Charleston that set the tone for their day. There is something really magical and inspiring about couples who pray together and make their faith a central part of their union.

Getting to know the bride and groom's families was awesome. I got a special ride to the reception from Kelly's mom and dad, who are, let's say SPECTACULAR people. Her dad kept joking about how much of a crier he is and that he just couldn't help himself when he saw his baby girl in a wedding dress. Swoon.

The icing on the cake was that this was a dancing group at the reception! I LOVE DANCING, and it makes for amazing reception photos. There is no better way to celebrate a couple than by dancing the night away. Dancing lets you see the good, bad, ugly, and tipsy, which is golden for photographers:)

30 days of Gratitude for my 30th birthday!

It's November 5th, exactly 30 days before my 30th birthday. I wish I could say I didn't care, and I pretty much don't, but there is something inside me that shudders a little when I think about turning 30. No longer being able to say "yeah, I'm 20-something." Maybe the world has conditioned us to think that 30 is the beginning of getting older, or a milestone by which to judge your accomplishments, or the turning point of becoming a real adult. When I look back at my 29 years and 11 months I'm really proud of myself, but also want a lot more for my life.

I had this idea, (which I think is pretty spectacular!) in order to take the focus away from me and myself, and to turn it outward. To pay it forward, make someone else's day better, to acknowledge that everyone we encounter every day is fighting a silent battle that we know nothing about. I have decided to do 30 random acts of kindness for the next 30 days leading up to my 30th birthday.

This project is not to show you what a wonderful person I am by doing these kind things for strangers, neighbors, public servants, teachers, etc. It's a challenge to myself to step out of my comfort zone, talk to people I've never spoken to before, to do things expecting absolutely nothing in return, to be unselfish. Most importantly, it is to make someone else's day a little brighter. A bit of appreciation goes a long way.

Today was Day 1 and It. Was. Awesome! Liam and I went to the grocery store and bought a few bags of groceries for the local fire department. We kept it simple, bought some pasta, sauce, bread, and cookies. Of course, walking into the fire station with a toddler and bags brought about 10 firefighters down to the garage. Then I basically had to give a little speech (TERRIFYING) explaining that first, nothing was wrong and I didn't need help, second, that I am about to turn 30 and decided to do a bunch of nice things for people, and third, that they were the first on my list.

Of course, the response was warm and welcoming. Liam climbed on the fire trucks for a few minutes and I got them to all line up and take a picture with me. I felt great, but more importantly I let those firefighters know that we appreciate and support them. We appreciate that they are grossly underpaid, let our kids climb on their big, expensive trucks, drop everything and run to burning buildings to SAVE LIVES. A few bags of groceries isn't nearly enough, but it's a small start.

Lastly, one very important thing I realized today is that I can involve my son in every act of gratitude. I can show him how important it is to appreciate others, to always be kind, and to learn to be unselfish. He's 3 1/2, but that's not too early to learn how to pay it forward.

Go see the Fog Canvases at the Honeycomb!

I am delighted to announce that I officially have my own art installation at the Honeycomb Cafe on Daniel Island! I took pictures on Sullivan's Island last winter when there was this magical fog. The weather was unseasonably warm for a week or so in January so, of course, we headed to the beach. The images that came out of those days are otherworldly and I loved working on them.

There are currently 5 large gallery-wrapped canvases hanging in the Honeycomb available for purchase, and many other canvases displaying my family and children's photography.

Caroline and Nick's Tidewater Chapel Wedding

I had the pleasure of photographing Caroline and Nick's engagement a few months ago. They were sweet, super cute, and easy to photograph. I could not wait for the wedding and was delighted when they officially asked me to shoot.

The wedding took place at Tidewater Chapel in Mount Pleasant and the reception hall that connects. The ceremony was lovely and simple in the gorgeous, understated chapel, and the reception was full of dancing all night, as it should be!

I have to say that my absolute favorite image of the night is one of the last ones. Caroline's father embraces her after the sparkler send-off and well, it's just magical.

A Day In the Life of a Photographer. Part I

So, an amazing website called Pinhole Press has asked me to contribute to their monthly Pinhole Pro Magazine! My work will also be featured in their product gallery. I am beyond excited as I love all of their products and use them personally, especially for our family yearbooks.

This shoot was a blast! By some miracle Maressa and I were able to find a bit of a deserted section of Folly Beach, in the middle of the afternoon, in the middle of the summer, on a gorgeous day... This girl works her butt off (almost) to maintain her killer shape and it shows. Maressa was amazing to photograph, up for anything, and totally cool with getting slammed in the face with waves and rolling around in the sand. Ahhh the life of a swimsuit model:)

Kassi and Parker's Palmetto Bluff Engagement

This was, by far, one of my most favorite engagement sessions to date. Kassi and Parker were not only a sweet and loving couple with legs for days (she is about 6 ft and Parker is about 6'5"...) but Palmetto Bluff was a magical place for a photo session! We started in the treehouse where Parker proposed, then made our way over beautiful bridges to the quaint Wilson Village and the Chapel. The hot, humid July-in-South-Carolina weather made for some great haze and warm sunshine. This couple needed no direction in being close and cute, sometimes I felt like I shouldn't be watching! Haha:)

Kassi and Parker will tie the knot in Savannah this winter and I am honored to be a part of it!

Kelly and Kenneth's Old Mount Pleasant Engagement

Kelly and Kenneth just have that thing. That easy, loving, way about them that made this session so special to photograph. We met at the Pitt Street Pharmacy to do a traditional soda shop shoot, then headed down to the Pitt Street Bridge. It was important to include a little bit of Sullivan's Island, the couple's favorite hang out spot, so we certainly had to get some lighthouse shots in the background.

I love when I just click with clients and their family. I was recently asked to snap a few pictures of this gorgeous family in celebration of the daughter, Shelby's, cabaret performance to close out her Junior year at Wando High School. Not only were they warm, funny, and up for anything- but as you can see they were super easy to photograph and well-dressed for the occasion in bright colors. Love it!

I hope to photograph the entire family this summer! What a fun crowd. PS- I make groups of people jump a LOT and there is always 1 or 2 who fake it. See if you can spot 'em.

Kristin and Cam's New York Wilderness Wedding!

This wedding was super awesome to be a part of! Set in Pratt's Falls State Park in Upstate New York, this wedding celebration was fun, romantic, and even goofy. The wedding party danced down the aisle to Bruno Mars' "I Think I Wanna Marry You." then continued the festivities in a candle-lit cabin in the woods.

Talk about having mighty subjects to photograph! This session was such a blast, not only with Tim and Mikaela, but with these two majestic newfoundlands Will and Chaucer. We headed out to Sullivan's Island and explored the unbelievably cool grounds of the Edgar Allen Poe Library, then let the dogs run free on the beach. As a photographer I was loving the overcast, windy, and hazy day that provided for some amazing images. Enjoy!

This woman is so easy to work with for so many reasons! We had a blast taking these portraits and I have to say we talked and joked WAY more that I photographed. Did I mention her skin is perfect, too?!

Not only is she sweet and pretty, but she is an amazing dentist. Her office is gorgeous, her staff is top notch, and everyone does great work. Check out Water's Edge Dentistry in Mount Pleasant. I'm a believer:)

I wrote this on Facebook and have gotten such an overwhelming response that I wanted to blog it as well.

I want to remind myself of this every day.

This is to my son:

"Oh Liam I love you so much. I love you even when I have to wipe your snot on my own sleeve or when you share my water and leave me tiny pieces of floating crackers, I love you when, out of the blue, you tell me I'm so pretty and that you love me, I love you when you pick a neighbor's flower and give it to me, and especially when you ask me to play a game with you or to read a book. I will always play, I will get dirty with you, I will run through puddles with you, and I will kiss your ouchies. I will study your face and movements every day because you are growing and changing so quickly. I will be conscious of how it feels to hold your little hand and what your body feels like when we hug. I could go on and on. I love you little boy...

And I won't be so quick to pick up your toys bc someday they won't be there on the floor, and I'll leave some finger prints on the windows because they make me smile. I'll laugh to myself when you mispronounce things and make your own special words, I'll frame way too many works of art and wallpaper the house in your creations, I'll breathe in your smell whether it's after a bath or a day playing in the mud. I'll share too many pictures of you on Facebook:) You are amazing. Ok, I'll stop now that I'm teary!"

My son and I love the petting zoo at Magnolia Plantation! It's really an incredible place and the surrounding gardens are absolutely beautiful. I love seeing the joy on Liam's face when he pets these friendly animals. Of course, he wants to hug and cuddle with them and can't understand why they squirm away. We will be enjoying this spot for a long time!

Family Vacation, North Myrtle Beach

This is one of those times when I realize the true value of photography. I have 5 sisters and 2 brothers between two households and we are between ages 10-29 (I am the oldest). Now that I have a son and have been building a family of my own, my relationships have only grown stronger and deeper with the people I grew up with and the people who raised me.

I look at my brothers and sisters with such fondness and it make my heart burst to see my son with my siblings and relatives. I took over 500 pictures in 2 days and could certainly have taken twice that! The images that came out of this past weekend are absolutely priceless to me.

Document the important people in your life. Kids are constantly growing and changing and those who raised you will not be around forever. Celebrate who they are now and who they have become. A picture really does say 1000+ words...

The American College of the Building Arts. Bubbles and Truffles Event 2013

The American College of the Building Arts is the bomb. They are bringing back old-school trades in a BIG way. Two weeks ago was the Masters of the Building Arts Festival here in Charleston and I had the pleasure of photographing the Bubbles and Truffles event at an AMAZING home downtown. Surprise birthday party at The Cottages!

What a wonderful way to celebrate a birthday! Susie's family organized an amazing surprise party at The Cottages on Charleston Harbor in Mount Pleasant and I had the honor of photographing the event. Her lovely family rented a few cottages, catered the party, and decorated beautifully.

I even got a little teary when she walked through the door and was blow away with surprise. I hope that my family surrounds me and celebrates me like that when I'm 60!

The sheer joy that this family shares is contagious.

The afternoon light was pouring into our guest room and I had to take advantage of this photo op. My son Liam loves to burry himself under bed sheets and have family cuddle time. We pretend we are exploring caves, living in white fluffy clouds, or hiding from snow monsters.

This is one of my favorite things to do with Liam and I hope you enjoy these images.

It took us MONTHS to pick a day and time to make this shoot happen and I have to say, I am over the moon! I created an inspiration board on Pinterest to keep myself focused and to remember certain moods and poses that I wanted to create. The light was perfect- an hour or so before sunset- and it created the perfect ambience to create these photos.

It is so important to photograph the people you love, and in particular, sacred relationships- like that of a father and son. It truly makes my heart burst to look at these pictures of my husband and son enjoying one of the things they love most- the almighty motorcycle.

Billy Reid, Charleston SC. Part I

Well, as luck would have it, the Billy Reid store AND The Rarebit (see previous post) may be featured in an upcoming issue of Architectural Digest! My girl Shelby, and manager of Billy Reid Charleston, called me for a last minute photo shoot and I was more than happy to oblige.

The store design takes you back a few decades set in a historical building with it's worn and warped natural wood floors, vintage heirloom wall portraits, ornate rugs, and magnolia leaf garlands. There were even a few crystal carafes filled with bourbon that made me want to sit down and take a load off for a while.

Can't wait to do a second shoot of the newly renovated and redecorated Billy Reid!

The Rarebit, Upper King, Charleston SC

I had the honor and pleasure of photographing a new (awesome) space on upper King Street, The Rarebit. The interior is chock full of clean, straight, mid-century modern lines, a mighty and soothing white marble bar, plaid banquettes, custom paintings, and even a few terrariums here and there. The space is comforting, cohesive, and perfectly decorated.

This is a place you'd meet Don Draper (or Betty) for an Old Fashioned or two. The menu consists of simple comfort foods to please any patron. I can vouch for the Mac 'n Cheese and my husband's favorite is the Fried Chicken and Waffles. (I can also vouch for their amazing Moscow Mule(s)...)

Can't wait to go back!

a big huge thank you to my 2012 clients!

Nothing feels better than giving gratitude. Almost 1 year ago, my husband and I decided to make a big move from our Brooklyn apartment down south to Charleston. It was a big lifestyle decision, and a two-part 16 hour drive (with our then 21-month-old son, and our dog), but we could not be happier with our life in the south. Charleston is beautiful, the people are friendly and warm, and the weather is a welcome and sunny change from New York!

I thought I would take the opportunity to thank my friends and clients from the past year for helping me make my business a success. Thank you for welcoming me into your lives and for giving me an opportunity to capture your special moments. It has been an honor to photograph such beautiful subjects and I hope our paths continue to cross.

Happy New Year! 2013 is already proving to be awesome!

Sullivan's Island Fog

Last week we had some unseasonably warm weather and with that came some amazing and magical fog. My son, Liam and I were lucky enough to spend a good chunk of time at the beach on Sullivan's Island and I captured some truly awesome fog effects. The images take me to another world.
